Binary package hint: apt-file
As seen in bug 179420, hardy, gutsy-proposed, and also gutsy-backports
and gutsy-security lack any Contents-i386.gz file.
While arguably you could expect most of the time that the -proposed
updates will probably contain exactly the same files as the packages
they replace in the stable baseline distribution, this is not always
necessarily so; and furthermore, a nasty side effect is observed in bug
176753.
For these reasons, it would seem like a good practice to provide a
Contents-ARCH.gz file for all official repositories.
