I created the file /etc/X11/Xresources/m with the following contents:
XTerm*Foreground: white
XTerm*Background: darkblue
I executed 'systemctl restart gdm', logged back into Ubuntu, opened
XTerm and it had a blue background with a white text

** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-oracular
