I am not saying it is the only way.
However, I do not think the Ubuntu kernel is necessarily a quicker path than 
the stable community because we have a certain criteria to determine which 
patches should be ported.

I'd like to be clear whether this is a performance improvement (if so,
how big is the improvement?), or this is a bug fix for something broken.
