I disagree though.
I think apt is making bad decisions here, and having to pass python3:amd64 to 
force the right one to be installed is a workaround for a bug in my book.
Maybe it isn't a python issue, but a bug nevertheless and apt's error message 
is terrible.

You can certainly expect many other users to hit this problem and loose
time.
