This happened to me on gutsy also. Can't get a backtrace out of gdb
without recompiling it, but here is the strace leading to the problem.

As indicated /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/volatile/.mounted is an
empty file, not a directory.
I produced a core dump for you as well and will attach it here.
