Thank you for your reply. I've been trying to boot the computer after 
that upgrade. Of what I could find out, you are correct in that it was a 
temporarly break in the download chain. I noticed later that there were 
a couple of packages that didn't make it, among them the kernel, the X 
server (or a sub package of it) and one package I haven't found what it 
was. The result of this was that it broke the boot sequence in such a 
way I couldn't recover from. This package is possible to redownload, so 
the current problem here are not critical. I managed at last to make a 
successful boot and connect to the email account again :)

Hopefully I could install virtualbox again.
