Public bug reported:
Dear Release Team,
Please accept this package removal as a Plucky FFe.
[Rationale]
With the addition of mysql-8.4, mysql-client, mysql-server, mysql-
router, and libmysqlclient-dev have all been taken over from mysql-8.0,
and is now the default mysql in Plucky.
All reverse dependencies have migrated, where `reverse-depends --release
plucky src:mysql-8.0` shows the following:
Reverse-Depends
===============
* default-libmysqlclient-dev (for libmysqlclient-dev)
* default-mysql-client (for mysql-client)
* default-mysql-server (for mysql-server)
* emboss-lib [amd64 arm64 ppc64el riscv64 s390x]
* mythexport [amd64 arm64] (for mysql-client)
* mythimport [amd64 arm64] (for mysql-client)
* postgresql-17-mysql-fdw [amd64 arm64 ppc64el riscv64 s390x]
The listed items all depend on mysql-defaults, and actually include
mysql-8.4 as a build/runtime dependency. They just show up due to the
package name conflict of mysql-client, mysql-server, and libmysqlclient-
dev.
Removing mysql-8.0 would ensure that all users upgrading to 25.04 will
end up with mysql-8.4, and that the security team will not need to
follow extra steps of non-trivially backporting new mysql-8.0 versions
here too.
** Affects: mysql-8.0 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
