I'm not sure if xfce4-session is the correct package. This happens to me
occasionally. I can't reproduce the problem on demand.

I'll be working away and all of the displays will flash for a few
seconds. When the flashing stops, all of the XFCE panels are gone and
many application windows don't no long have window controls. The only
recovery option I've found is to reboot.
