I was searching the web for my bug, which was exactly the same, and
found your comment. I removed hplip + hplip-gui, commented the file
`/etc/sane.d/dll.d/hplip` and rebooted. Now I can use simple-scan
without being required to enter my password.

My Ubuntu is the vesion 24.10.

I just reinstalled both hplip and hplip-gui, and will observe the
simple-scan behavior after next time I reboot, just in case editing the
`/etc/sane.d/dll.d/hplip` file would not be enough.
