Public bug reported: The 'fwupd' package in Ubuntu is responsible for retrieving firmware updates from the Linux Vendor Firmware Service [1] and applying them to Ubuntu client hosts. The fwupd package version that is shipped with Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 [2] is currently End of Life, though, and is not even receiving security updates. We think this package should be updated to a supported version [3].
Apparently one of the fwupd developers submitted a Stable Release Update request some time ago, but no action was taken on updating the package in 20.04 or 22.04. I do not have the details for that submission, though, but is this effort generally something that you could move along? Here is a relevant bug report [4] that brought all of this to our attentions.
