Looking at this some more under Wayland on Ubuntu 24.10 with the Nvidia 560 drivers, I found that if you repeat the steps to reproduce the bug enough times under pymol 3.0.0 the same error code is occasionally generated...
GL_ERROR : 0x0502 however it only rarely crashes pymol. More often when the error code appears, the ABPS Electrostatics plugin is able to complete the electrostatic surface rendering.
