Public bug reported:

libnss-ldap and libpam-ldap FTBFS and have been removed from Debian;
ldap-auth-client is a metapackage that depends on both.

I've asked the server team and Andreas in particular about the removals
and he agreed with them.

# libnss-ldap

> ldap-nss.c:1945:15: error: implicit declaration of function
‘gss_krb5_ccache_name’ [-Wimplicit-function-declaration]

Removed from testing on 2022/11/17: Hint: Package not in unstable
The upload dated from 2020/12/22 .
No event since then.
There is very little activity upstream: a change every 4 years or so for the
past 15 years.

I /think/ the FTBFS may be fixed by a patch available upstream but I
only saw that after seeing several reasons to remove the package
instead.

Reverse-Recommends
==================
* nslcd [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x]
* pynslcd                       (for libnss-ldap)
Reverse-Depends
===============
* ldap-auth-client              (for libnss-ldap)

nslcd and pynslcd come from another implementation that is well and
alive; they recommend either libnss-ldap OR that other implementation,
so there is no loss of functionality expected there.

ldap-auth-client is a package we also want to remove.

No reverse build-depends.

# libpam-ldap

> /usr/bin/install: cannot change ownership of
'/<<PKGBUILDDIR>>/debian/libpam-ldap/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/security/pam_ldap.so': Operation not permitted

Removed from unstable on 2023/02/28: obsolete, abandoned upstream,
replaced by libpam-ldapd

Same upstream as libnss-ldap, with similar levels of activity.

Reverse-Recommends
==================
* libnss-ldap [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x]
* nslcd [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x]
* pynslcd                       (for libpam-ldap)
Reverse-Depends
===============
* ldap-auth-client              (for libpam-ldap)

Same dependencies and explanation as above, and in addition to that, a
reverse-recommends to libnss-ldap which is the first package in this
list of removals.

# ldap-auth-client

Ubuntu-specific, almost no activity. I've found
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ldap-auth-client/+bug/1996830
from vorlon which stated

> ldap-auth-client is an Ubuntu-specific package that was demoted to
universe after trusty and doesn't appear to have an active maintainer.
Either it needs to be updated to not depend on libnss-ldap, or it should
be removed from lunar.

No change has happened and as I've said above, I've checked these
removals with the server team.
