Hello, @dominic-timedicer, thanks for reaching out and filling this bug!
I have executed an upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 with a basic spamassassin
configuration and succeeded, so the happy path works.
What I see in the error logs is:
```
package:sa-compile:4.0.0-8ubuntu5
Setting up sa-compile (4.0.0-8ubuntu5) ...
Running sa-compile (may take a long time)
sa-compile: not compiling; 'spamassassin --lint' check failed!
dpkg: error processing package sa-compile (--configure):
installed sa-compile package post-installation script subprocess returned
error exit status 2
```
It seems in the installation process for the new package some of
/etc/spamassassin/local.cf is not being parsed correctly, and there are
deprecated entries. The deprecations are just warnings, but the parse
errors in th local.cf are preventing sa-compile from running.
Adding those lines to my local.cf file makes `spamassassin --lint` fail
exactly as in the logs.
So the first question would be: what is the result of running
`spamassassin --lint` in your machine right now?
