It's starting to sound like Mutter just wasn't very good at handling
failed hardware cursor updates in 24.04. Indeed I cannot reproduce it in
25.04 either (I haven't tried 24.04 yet). Such a problem could be
specific to Wayland AND affect Xorg sessions still because it might be
the login screen (always Wayland) causing the main freeze.
