The virtualbox package (version 6.1.50) from the official Ubuntu 22.04
(Jammy Jellyfish) repositories consistently causes a 'Guru Meditation'
critical error when run on a system with a modern Hardware Enablement
(HWE) kernel (e.g., 6.8.x).
1) Ubuntu Release: 22.04.4 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)
2) VirtualBox Package Version: 6.1.50-dfsg-1~ubuntu1.22.04.3
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-60-generic
3) Expected Result:
The virtual machine should start normally and begin its boot process.
4) Actual Result:
The VirtualBox GUI immediately displays a "A critical error has occurred while
running the virtual machine..." (Guru Meditation) dialog box. The VM process is
terminated and never begins to boot. Log files do not point to a specific
error, indicating a low-level incompatibility.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Perform a clean installation of Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS and ensure it is fully
updated, including the HWE kernel stack.
2. Install the virtualbox package from the official multiverse repository (sudo
apt install virtualbox).
3. Create any standard virtual machine (the guest OS does not matter).
4. Attempt to start the virtual machine.
Workaround and Diagnosis:
The issue is 100% resolved by completely purging the official virtualbox
package and all its dependencies, and then manually installing the latest
version (7.0.18 or newer) directly from the virtualbox.org website. This
confirms that the incompatibility is specifically between the older VirtualBox
6.1.50 package and the newer 6.8.x HWE kernel.
