Public bug reported:

The currently shipped i8kutils (i.e. i8kctl, i8kfan and i8kmon) want to
access /proc/i8k which is deprecated (e.g.
https://docs.kernel.org/admin-guide/abi-obsolete.html#symbols-under-
proc-i8k )

There is also a fork of i8kutils that includes the switch to the new interface:
https://github.com/Wer-Wolf/i8kutils

As the currently shipped version of i8kutils in Ubuntu doesn't work with the
kerne that Ubuntu is using it is a bug that needs to be solved.
As it seems that the original source at https://github.com/vitorafsr/i8kutils
has stopped development it might be necessary to switch to the fork at
https://github.com/Wer-Wolf/i8kutils
