Came across this bug to report a similar issue. This appears to be a recent-ish behavior change in Noble.
Context: we deploy EC2 instances using Canonical's 24.04 Server AMIs. We had a working deployment process ca. January 2025. As of recently, we're seeing a similar issue to @jamesps, in that DNS was gone after installing `ubuntu-desktop`.
