I tried to reproduce the issue in a Ubuntu 24.04 GNOME VM, but failed:
* Add USB disk
* Format the disk with ext4
* mount disk, create a file, delete the file
* echo abc >/media/$USER/*/.Trash-1000/files/abcd.jpg
* grep gio /var/log/syslog

Then I noticed that your report and bug 2103737 are both on XFCE. So
that might the the difference. Danieal, can you answer Simons questions?
