The glib upstream maintainers are unwilling to add any more hard-coded
terminal command names, including x-terminal-emulator.

I recommend that MATE consider supporting xdg-terminal-exec instead of
x-terminal-emulator. Besides being supported by glib, it allows for the
default terminal to be set per user, rather than OS-wide. Ubuntu Desktop
25.04 switched to xdg-terminal-exec. I don't think there is really a GUI
to configure xdg-terminal-exec. We also are not automatically attempting
to migrate configuration from x-terminal-emulator to xdg-terminal-exec.
