The fingerprint censor has returned to functioning, please feel free to
cancel or continue to investigate this bug as you feel appropriate.
Furthermore, the issue appears to be a broader USB issue, not related to
the driver of the fingerprint sensor. I have not inserted or removed any
USB devices since before the issue began, but the output of lsusb now
shows three more devices: the fingerprint sensor, an internal wireless
networking device, and an external flash drive. The current output of
lsusb is:

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

From the apt log, the following packages were upgraded last time I used the
laptop and may be responsible for the returned functionality:
linux-modules-extra-6.11.0-28-generic:amd64
linux-image-6.11.0-28-generic:amd64
linux-hwe-6.11-headers-6.11.0-28:amd64
linux-headers-6.11.0-28-generic:amd64
linux-modules-6.11.0-28-generic:amd64
gzip:amd64 (probably irrelevant, but it does show as having been upgraded)
