Public bug reported: Rust 1.86 was released on 3 April, 2025. A great deal of packages in the Ubuntu archive rely on Rust to build properly, and as time passes, the minimal supported Rust version (MSRV) of crucial Rust-based packages increases.
1.86 stabilizes several new APIs and language features. Additionally, `aarch64` is now optimized with ThinLTO and PGO, dramatically improving build times on that platform. See releases.rs[1] for a full changelog. In the 25.10 Roadmap, the target Rust version is 1.89, so the inclusion of `rustc-1.86` in the archive brings us one step closer to our goal.
