bug #265102 mentioned 2008-09-05 that fortify source-should not be enabled, and on 2011-11-23 that fortify-source is still not needed and adds runtime overhead, but if there's bugs with fortify they'd be fixed upstream. in merge #489707 I've removed the #undef _FORTIFY_SOURCE so we can test if there's problems.
