My tests are supporting this conclusion:

lftp [email protected]:/HARTMAFK.191> cd /GPLSRV2:HARTMAFK.CODE
cd ok, cwd=/GPLSRV2:HARTMAFK.CODE

It works if I CD with a "fake" absolute path.

And it happily blows up on an empty cd as well:

lftp [email protected]:/> cd
*** buffer overflow detected ***: terminated
Aborted


The concept of absolute paths doesn't really make a lot of sense in the context 
of z/OS and z/VM, leading to this issue.
