Public bug reported:
# Current behavior
Currently, the Notification Area is placed in the top right of the
screen.
`mate-notification-properties`
(see 1.png.)
This placement causes issues by blocking the window control buttons (minimize,
maximize, close) when windows are maximized (see 2.png):
`$ notify-send "Test Notification" "This is a test from the terminal."`
# Feature request
I suggest relocating the Notification Area to the bottom right corner of
the screen (see 3.png.)
This location is generally the least occupied screen area, minimizing
interference with window controls and titles. It would also make
notifications visible without distracting interactive use or overlapping
important information:
Additionally, placing the Notification Area in the bottom right helps
prevent users from accidentally clicking on a notification when it pops
up at the same time they try to click a window button. Such accidental
clicks close the notification immediately, leaving the user without any
clue about the notification message’s content.
Note: In Ubuntu, the Notification Area is located at the top center.
Although this avoids blocking the window buttons, it still overlaps with
window titles, especially on maximized windows, which detracts from
usability and aesthetics.
Thank you for considering this improvement.
