Public bug reported:

The default $TERM in the GUI is xterm-256color, but there is no
gnuitrc.xterm-256color file.

Please create one simply as a symlink to gnuitrc.xterm-color:

  ln -s gnuitrc.xterm-color gnuitrc.xterm-256color

(which is what I do on the systems where I have gnuit installed).
