** Summary changed:
- Fork containerd-app into containerd-stable
+ [FFE] Fork {containerd,runc}-app into {containerd,runc}-stable
** Description changed:
This bug is a Archive Admin review request for forking containerd-app
- into a new containerd-stable source package as per
+ into a new containerd-stable source package and runc-app into a new
+ runc-stable source package as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess#FeatureFreeze_for_new_packages.
+
+ Also, as per a Release Team request, I am also making this an FFe in the
+ lights of a future process change to URL above (the process for new
+ packages will soon require FFe AFAIU).
For the upload, the changes in the new package will consist of
- Changing the source package name to containerd-stable
- changing the only binary package shipped in the new forked package from
containerd to containerd-stable
- adding "Conflicts: containerd", "Replaces: containerd", and "Provides:
containerd" relations in containerd-stable (the Conflics and Replaces will also
be added to containerd-app)
Motivation:
The containerd-app package is under the container stack update exception
(https://documentation.ubuntu.com/sru/en/latest/reference/exception-
Docker-Updates/).
We want to have two separate packages for containerd: one which will
remain stable (no API/ABI breakage) and one which will keep receiving
the latest upstream updates following the exception mentioned above.
In this first moment, both packages will be released in questing
targeting the same version. With time, they will end up diverging once
they receive updates next cycle.

+ Since the future FFe process is not documented yet, for FFe purposes, I
+ am attaching PPA builds for the new packages below.
