** Description changed:

In Wayland the --no-focus-on-map flag of update-manager has no effect.

GNOME Shell and most other Wayland desktops default to focusing any new window
because the mechanism to explicitly request focus is not broadly implemented
yet, so the update-manager window always steals focus when automatically
  launched.

Let's revert back to showing an appindicator and a notification, instead of
  automatically launching update-manager.

The notification will offer options to inspect the available updates, or
a one-click to install them all directly.

An appindicator will also always be visible, to be easily reached even
if the notification was previously dismissed.
+
+ This is a Feature Freeze Exception request because we would like to land
+ this change in a non-LTS release first, to give more time to discover
+ potential issues with the update process.
