Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04 (fresh install) mailnag extension don't works
as usual.
When new mails are notified nothing is displayed when clicking on the icon. If
"Group mails by account" setting is used only the first account name is
displayed. If there is no unread mails the usual menu is displayed (Check for
mails, parameters, ...).

The logs file (journalctl -r /usr/bin/gnome-shell) displays the following error
:
Exception in callback for signal: MailsAdded: TypeError: hbox2.add is not a
function
It seems that add method of St.Boxlayout class no longer exists.

Replacing all occurrences of xxx.add(yyy) in indicator.js by xxx.add_child(yyy)
fixed the problem for me.
As I have almost no knowledge on javascript, this fix may be inadequate or
having unwanted side effects. But it works on my computer.

** Affects: gnome-shell-mailnag (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
