I am in contact with the upstream author and we curently do not have an idea what could be the issue. However, a temporary workaround is available for changing the hosts: - add the applet > - kill it (do not remove it using the panel menu) > - gnome-panel will popup a dialog asking if you want to reload > the applet, keep that dialog around, do not answer > immediately > - start gconf-editor and add the host(s) to > /apps/panel/applets/applet_N/prefs/hosts (you'll have to find > out the value of N) > - now click on reload in the panel dialog > there is as many Ns as you have applets on you panel (at least I think), you need to enter data into hosts as list and then string.
