In re-reviewing the history of this bug, it appears things have been
very confused, due to several reporters with varying feedback, and
several engineers with varying understanding of the state of the issue.
It looks like the originally requested patch was never actually verified
as fixing it by the original reporter (Andre). A different commenter,
Brandon, said the PPA fixed things for him, but we never got actual
confirmation that he indeed was having the same issue (see Athos'
questions from comment #15 that did not get resolved).
Following the departures of Michał, Mitchell, and Robie, I got the task
to rebase the PPA and proceed with the SRU. I see that I noted at the
time that there were still unanswered questions, and in hindsight we
should have waited on answers to those rather than submitting this for
SRU.
It wasn't until after the SRU was accepted that we heard back from
Andre, who reported in comment #21 that he believes the needed fixes are
in the 0.5.17 pigeonhole code. The commits in that release are:

But per Andre's note there may be additional patches required.
I think someone who can actually reproduce the bug would need to go
through each of those commits to find exactly which one(s) are required.
(There are changes included in 0.5.17 which are probably not likely to
be acceptable under SRU policy, so backporting the entirety of
pigeonhole 0.5.17 seems unlikely to be approved.)
Otherwise, I'm not sure we can really proceed with this bug without
having the steps to reproduce it defined so that we can verify the
patches ourselves.
Andre or Gustavo, are either of you willing to do one of these two for
us?
