Yes the user interface here is less than ideal. The Nvidia 575 driver was official for a while, but is now replaced by 580.
To recover from situations like this, I personally use: 1. sudo apt purge '*nvidia*-5*' 2. Reboot. 3. Use 'Additional Drivers' to install a new driver. 4.
