Public bug reported:
After leaving the system idle at the LightDM login screen for several
minutes, logging in results in a black screen with only a cursor.
Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace briefly shows the Linux Mint wallpaper, then
the screen turns black and the system becomes unresponsive.
Steps to reproduce:
Boot Linux Mint (Ubuntu 24.04 base) with kernel 6.8.0-83 and AMDGPU GPU.
Reach the LightDM login screen (Cinnamon desktop).
Leave the login screen idle for several minutes.
Enter login credentials and log in.
Observe black screen with cursor.
Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace briefly shows the Mint wallpaper, then the
screen goes black and the system hangs.
Expected behavior:
Logging in should start the session normally, without a black screen or system
freeze.
Actual behavior:
Black screen with cursor; restarting X via Ctrl+Alt+Backspace triggers a brief
wallpaper flash, then the system hangs.
Hardware:
CPU: AMD64
GPU: AMDGPU
Software:
Linux kernel: 6.8.0-83
Display manager: LightDM
Desktop environment: Cinnamon
Distribution: Linux Mint 21.x (Ubuntu 24.04 base)
Additional notes:
Issue occurs after the login screen is idle. Likely related to AMDGPU
idle/resume handling.
