Public bug reported:
After a recent system upgrade, my MSI Cyborg 15 A13VF-879XES laptop
(with an Intel Core i7-13620H CPU) is unable to boot. The boot process
stops at the initramfs prompt with the error ALERT! UUID=... does not
exist.
The issue appears to be a kernel regression, as the system boots and
works perfectly with the older kernel version 6.11.0-29-generic.
The kernel versions confirmed to FAIL on this hardware are:
6.14.0-28-generic
6.14.0-29-generic
6.14.0-32-generic
Debugging steps that did not work
- Running fsck on the root partition.
- Manually regenerating initramfs from a Live USB.
- Reinstalling GRUB.
- Verifying BIOS settings: Secure Boot is disabled, and the disk controller is
set to AHCI mode (Intel VMD is also disabled).
SOLUTION:
I have successfully worked around the issue by removing all 6.14.x
kernel series packages and the linux-generic-hwe meta-packages. The
system is now locked to the stable 6.11.0-29-generic kernel.
