I was able to reproduce this and agree it's due to the vm_flags check.
I'm pretty sure it should be:
if (!(pfn_valid(pgoff)) && (vma->vm_flags & VM_PFNMAP)) {
The test passes with this change. I will work confirm with the original
patch author and work on a PR to resolve this.
