This bug also appears to affect my Intel 4965 AGN, using modules iwl4965

Manual connection works fine (using KNetworkManager in Kubuntu).
unggnu: Could you please provide some more detail on how to implement
the workaround you suggested? Perhaps suggest appropriate syntax for
rc.local for the "sleep and a check for running NetWorkManager daemon"?
