I faced the same boot issue on Raring. A couple of quick fixes that
worked for me:

Reinstalled GRUB....
sudo grub-install /dev/sda && sudo update-grub

Changed BIOS boot order to make sure the HDD was the first option.
After this, my node booted fine.
