Public bug reported:

1.) The release of ubuntu:
Description: Ubuntu 25.04
Release: 25.04

2.) The version of the package:
  package name:  screen
  Installed: 4.9.1-1ubuntu0.1
  Candidate: 4.9.1-1ubuntu0.1
  Version table:
 *** 4.9.1-1ubuntu0.1 500
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu plucky-updates/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     4.9.1-1build1 500
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu plucky/main amd64 Packages

3.)
a) Log in into the graphical user environment.
b) Open the gnome terminal.
c) Type the command "screen".
d) Press enter just to be able to type a command within the screen.
e) Deattach from the screen using Ctrl A D.
f) Log out from the graphical user environment (with rebooting).
g) Log in again.
h) Try to attach the screen session (command screen -r).
i) I expect the screen session to be normally usable. (It was always the case
in other linux systems I tried during past decades).

4.) If I do the steps shown above, i.e. if I detach from an existing
screen session, then log out (just log out, no reboot) and then log in,
I found the screen session dead:

[konopka@thinkpad ~] screen -ls
There is a screen on:
        3577.pts-0.thinkpad (25/09/25 10:53:28) (Dead ???)
Remove dead screens with 'screen -wipe'.
1 Socket in /run/screen/S-konopka.

The screen session cannot be normally reattached, it is unusable and my
simulation (some long-time running in the command-line session) has also
crashed. This is of course annoying.

I am reporting this bug from an ubuntu 25.04 notebook but the same bug is
present also in ubuntu 22.04 for example. This bug is NOT present in LinuxMint
22.1 Xia (based on ubuntu 24.04).
I checked also Lubuntu 22.04. Any screen session is completely removed there
upon logout. Even no mention of a dead screen.

A note to my way of the screen usage: While being in my office, I start
a screen session with a simulation using some command-line driven
program like cp2k or cpmd or psi4 or dftb+ or something similar, e.g. a
program from the Quantum Espresso package. The program is expected to
run overnight. So it is better to deattach the screen to prevent an
accidental hit on the running program. And since such program needs a
lot of memory, it is convenient to log out from the graphical user
environment thus leaving more more memory for the simulation.
Unfortunately, the screen then crashes on the mentioned ubuntu systems.
I did no encounter such a crashing on any Linux Mint system.
