Public bug reported:
Directly after graphics initialisation (i.e. when then greeter is
attempting to start) GTK and QT applications requesting the current
display mode are told that the display is set to a 0x0 px display mode.
When asking X directly, or querying the device via DRM, the display mode
is reported correctly (as 1920x1080@60 in the test case) with the
default and current modes both set appropriately. Despite this, XRandR
reports 0x0 as the active mode, showing a missing initialisation step.
This breaks GTK based applications such as greeters and so xubuntu users
cannot log in. They are instead presented with a black display (at the
correct resolution) with a cursor stuck in the top left.
This issue was originally detected as an issue with xubuntu on kria
devices running ubuntu noble (24.04) in which the screen was black and
the cursor could not move instead of being presented with a greeter.
This issue was originally reported by Tony McDowell from the AMD
Embedded Compute Group.
