Public bug reported:

Recording audio with Audacity on Ubuntu 22 or 24 leads to a memory issue
leading to a system freeze (no errors in Audacity logs). Indeed while
recording, looking at the memory usage with System monitor shows that
the memory usage keeps increasing infinitely.

I have tested this with various (recent) Audacity versions and Audacity
sources (.deb, snap) and also with different Ubuntu versions. I'm not
100% certain but I would say that the problem occurred when upgrading
Ubuntu (possibly from 20 LTS to 22 LTS).

I tried to install a brand new Ubuntu and the problem was still there,
and I tested with a newer computer with greater memory and the problem
still occurred but later as there was more memory.

Finally I tried with Linux Mint Cinnamon and this time the problem does
not occur anymore. I "solved" the problem this way on 2 computers...

I still have a home computer which encounters this problem so if anyone
needs more info or tests I might be able to provide that.

Thanks to anyone who will look into this.
