I had this bug occur on two different Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS (Noble) systems
after apt update of mesa packages from 24.2.8-1ubuntu1-24.04.1 to
25.0.7-0ubuntu0.24.04.2.
Wayland works fine, but logging in with Xorg/X11 results in a frozen GUI
desktop. Mouse pointer moves but can't click anything and no keyboard
keys work apart from Ctrl-Alt-F keys to change to console etc. Logs
appear to show system running in the background and I have yet to find
any obvious errors in dmesg or logs.
While debugging I tried various Ubuntu updates and kernels and tried
installing Nvidia drivers instead of nouveau but no change to this bug.
When I finally tracked the bug down to mesa I manually downloaded and
reverted mesa packages back to 24.2.8-1ubuntu1-24.04.1 and Xorg/X11 GUI
desktop works again as normal on both PCs.
If I can supply any information from these two PCs which might help
please let me know. In the meantime some basic info:
