This bug is tested on Ubuntu and Kubuntu version 25.10.
Due to this bug in Ubuntu / Kubuntu 25.10, after installing the Nvidia GPU
driver -> kernel header -> kernel modules, the size of the installed kernel
initrd will be ~80-90 MB instead of ~240-250 MB, which is what we get in 25.04
or earlier versions when this process is complete.
This bug also occurs when we install the latest 6.17 kernel in this way, so
it's kernel independent.
We can test this bug with the following command (after adding noble-
security repository for 6.8 kernel):
sudo apt install nvidia-driver-580 nvidia-dkms-580 -y && sudo apt
install linux-headers-6.8.0-86-generic linux-headers-6.8.0-86 -y && sudo
apt install linux-image-6.8.0-86-generic linux-modules-6.8.0-86-generic
linux-modules-extra-6.8.0-86-generic linux-tools-6.8.0-86-generic linux-
tools-6.8.0-86 -y
I edited all of the possibilities onto 1 picture so we can see what
happens on the certain systems and what happens when we firstly install
/ downgrade to dkms 3.0.11, then install the kernel (it's a workaround
but not very user-friendly).
