Public bug reported: 1) The release of Ubuntu
Kubuntu 25.10 Questing Quokka - Linux Kernel 6.17.0-6 (bug may affected since 6.17.0-5 but not sure.) 2) The version of package you are using linux-firmware 20250901.git993ff19b-0ubuntu1.2 * It looks like similar issue reported at #2127965 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/2127965 ) but the proposed version of linux-firmware (~1.3) by that bug also affected. 3) What expected to happen - Scan, Connect and Disconnect available in higher channels such as 144, 149 at 5GHz (Wi-Fi 5/6) - Scan, Connect and Disconnect available in 6GHz (Wi-Fi 6e/7) - the country code applied in phy#0 in `iw reg get` should be KR / US or other country codes that supports the right channels in Korea. 4) What happened instead - Scan, Connect and Disconnect only available in lower channels of 5GHz and all channels of 2.4GHz - the country code applied in phy#0 in `iw reg get` is 00-UNSET, which only supports very common channels, and cannot change by `sudo iw set {country_code}`. 5) Important Backgrounds - Tested in South Korea, which country allows higher channels of 5GHz and 6GHz. See Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels ) for more details. - It may be also related to kernel images / modules package because : using **6.16.12-061612-generic_6.16.12.202510121336** kernel from mainline does not affected by this bug. (`US` country code applied in this version by default) - In Info Center of Kubuntu, at PCI section, it seems like I am using WCN785x series now. ``` c2:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc WCN785x Wi-Fi 7(802.11be) 320MHz 2x2 [FastConnect 7800] (rev 01) Subsystem: Lenovo Device e0e6 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 139, IOMMU group 15 Memory at b0600000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=2M] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: ath12k_pci Kernel modules: ath12k ``` 6) Other System Information ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 AMD with AMD RYZEN AI 7 PRO 360 (Radeon 880M) - 32GB RAM (Micron Technology), 512GB PCIe 4.0 SSD (Kioxia) - Secure Boot disabled, dual-boot with Windows 11 25H2 - Upgraded from Kubuntu 25.04, with mainline kernel version 6.16.12. Before upgrading Kubuntu, I've installed mainline kernel because ath12k driver in the stable version of kernel make freezing system by disconnect Wi-Fi. It was resolved since kernel 6.16.6. ** Affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: 1) The release of Ubuntu Kubuntu 25.10 Questing Quokka - - Linux Kernel 6.17.0-6 (bug may effected since 6.17.0-5 but not sure.) + - Linux Kernel 6.17.0-6 (bug may affected since 6.17.0-5 but not sure.) 2) The version of package you are using linux-firmware 20250901.git993ff19b-0ubuntu1.2 * It looks like similar issue reported at #2127965 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/2127965 ) but the proposed version of linux-firmware (~1.3) by that bug also - effected. + affected.
