As per Glenn's suggestion, I too can confirm that this work-around has
resolved my issue.

Disabling/removing my network shares in /etc/fstab and rebooting allowed
me to successfully boot with kernel 6.17.0-6

I then added the network shares back into /etc/fstab and rebooted again
and it worked!!

Happily running with 6.17.0-6 and all network shares intact.

Big thanks to Glenn for identifying this work-around.

Now, can anyone explain why this happened? :->
