You have been subscribed to a public bug:
On a ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 running Kubuntu 25.10 with kernel 6.17, the
integrated AMDGPU sometimes fails to initialize the display on battery,
producing Secure display: Generic Failure or a blank screen. Cold boots
may succeed, but warm reboots often fail. The kernel parameter
amdgpu.securedisplay=0 is ignored in 6.17, and adding amdgpu.runpm=0
improves warm boot reliability but does not fully fix the issue.
Firmware (BIOS 0.1.52) is up to date. The problem appears related to PSP
/ DMUB timing on warm boot.
Steps to Reproduce:
Boot on battery → SecureDisplay error or blank screen may occur.
Boot on AC, then warm reboot → blank screen or SecureDisplay failure.
Repeat cold and warm boots to reproduce intermittently.
Impact:
Laptop unreliable on battery; cannot guarantee display initialization.
Workarounds partially effective but not complete.
Request:
Canonical / AMDGPU: Review SecureDisplay / DMUB handling in kernel ≥6.17
for warm boots.
Goal: Reliable cold and warm boots on battery without workarounds.
