Public bug reported:
Summary:
On Acer Aspire A315-44P (and likely similar models), the volume keys (F1–F3)
are not handled properly under Kubuntu.
They are always interpreted as media keys (mute/vol down/vol up), even when the
BIOS is set to “Function Keys” mode.
Steps to reproduce:
In BIOS, set “Function Key Behavior” to “Function Keys”.
Boot into Kubuntu.
Run xev and press F1, F2, F3 both alone and with Fn.
Expected result:
F1, F2, F3 should send regular function key events (keycode 67–69) when Fn mode
is disabled.
Actual result:
Pressing F1–F3 always triggers ACPI events from the “Acer WMI hotkeys” device:
```
button/mute MUTE 00000080 00000000 K
button/volumedown VOLDN 00000080 00000000 K
button/volumeup VOLUP 00000080 00000000 K
```
and never emits normal keycodes through evdev.
Additional info:
`acpi_listen` shows the above events
`evtest on /dev/input/event7` shows no output when pressing F1–F3
Disabling acer_wmi removes ACPI events, but no evdev events appear
either
BIOS setting has no effect on these 3 keys (while all others respect it)
OS: Kubuntu 24.04 (KDE Plasma 6)
Kernel: [output of uname -r]
Suggested component:
Likely kernel module acer_wmi or input driver mapping.
