📋 Bug Report Description (Launchpad)
1. Summary of Device and OS
I am reporting a persistent hardware/driver issue on a Lenovo IdeaPad
Slim 3 16 ABR8 running the development release Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing).
2. Current Critical Issue: NumLock Not Activating on Autologin
The main problem is that NumLock fails to activate automatically upon
loading the desktop session when Autologin is enabled.
Symptom: The NumLock key is inactive after the desktop appears,
preventing the use of the numeric keypad until the key is pressed
manually.
Context: Because Autologin is enabled, the GDM login screen is
bypassed, leading to the failure of various startup scripts.
Extensive Troubleshooting Done (All methods failed):
GDM Configuration: Setting InitialNumLockState=on in
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf is ignored when Autologin is active.
GNOME Autostart: The command numlockx on failed to execute correctly
via the .desktop file, even with added sleep 3 delays.
X11/Console Methods: numlockx on via .xprofile and the direct kernel
command setleds +num via /etc/rc.local also failed to activate NumLock.
TTY Configuration: Explicitly setting NUMLOCK=yes in
/etc/default/console-setup did not resolve the issue in the GUI session.
Manual Test: (Add this based on your final check): Manually
executing numlockx on in the terminal [DOES NOT WORK / WORKS, but fails
to execute on startup].
This suggests a deep-seated kernel or ACPI driver conflict specific to
this laptop's keyboard/firmware in the 25.10 development branch.
3. Related Hardware Context (Microphone Issue Resolved)
For additional context that might aid in driver investigation, I
previously experienced an issue where the internal microphone did not
work at all. This issue was resolved automatically by a recent system or
kernel update in the 25.10 branch, suggesting that device driver support
for this model is actively being developed.
Please investigate the kernel module responsible for keyboard/ACPI
handling on the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 16 ABR8.
Thank you.
