Debian latest version is 550. Ubuntu problem is that newer nvidia-settings from Debian depends on nvidia-installer-cleanup package that conflicts with nvidia-driver- binary from Ubuntu's xserver-xorg-video-nvidia-xxx. This one is a dependency of nvidia-driver-XXX-open.
As support for xorg sessions is gone for GNOME desktop, IMHO, the best way to solve this is to make xserver-xorg-video-nvidia-xxx packages standalone for use only of people using a non GNOME desktop, not depending on nvidia-driver-XXX-open at all. This not only avoid the install of useless xorg files (in GNOME desktop) but also make nvidia-settings updatable again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2106185 Title: nvidia-settings is so old on recent ubuntu versions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/2106185/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
