I finally had enough and decided to give Ubuntu 7.04 a try. xfs is
stable in 7.04. And the entire system seems NOTICEABLY faster running
7.04 rather than 7.10.

I discovered the Ubuntuzilla project, thus was able to get current TBird
(and Firefox as well while I was at it) in 7.04.

The latest Envy works well for installing nVidia drivers.

And the Parallels VM environment installs well on 7.04. (The latest
build actually would install on 7.10.) Parallels is running
significantly faster with a Vista Business CD installing. Now when I
click something in the Vista installation, it is actually a tolerable
time before Vista responds.

Those apps are the primary apps I need in native Linux. So, I will stick
with 7.04 for now, stop fighting, and start getting real work done.
