** Description changed: Running Ubuntu 25.10. I have a Dell XPS 9640 laptop. Usually, either the laptop speakers or the headphones are chosen as a sound output. After I unplug the headphones (using the headphone jack), the system volume jumps to the maximum value, even if the system volume level was muted before plugging in the headphones. Expected behaviour: In most OSs/distros/previous Ubuntu versions, these two states had their own setups: For example, I am at work, and I mute the laptop speakers, then I plug in the headphones, the system automatically detects the headphones, and sets the volume level to the previously used level. Then, after I unplug the headphones, the sound becomes muted (as it was before plugging in the headphones). So there were clearly 2 distinct states. Sometimes, it is very annoying when at work, I unplug the headphones, and the system gives out a loud noise to let me know that my volume level is at maximum (or to bother my colleagues with other notification sounds). When I say maximum, I mean 100%. I enabled oversimplification, which is not maximized.
