Public bug reported:
On my Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14IIL05, the integrated Chicony webcam (USB ID
04f2:b725) is detected by the kernel and device nodes are created
(/dev/video6, /dev/video7). However, no valid frame formats are reported
and all applications fail to stream video. Cheese, VLC, ffplay, and
Guvcview all return errors such as “no such device” or “no valid frame
formats”.
The camera works correctly under Windows, so hardware is confirmed
functional. The issue occurs on Ubuntu 24.04 with kernels 6.8 through
6.14, and also reproduces on Fedora, suggesting a regression or missing
quirk in the Linux uvcvideo driver.
Steps to reproduce:
Boot Ubuntu 24.04 (kernel 6.8–6.14).
Run lsusb -v -d 04f2:b725 → device enumerates.
Run v4l2-ctl --list-devices → shows Integrated Camera at /dev/video6 and
/dev/video7.
Attempt to stream with Cheese, VLC, ffplay, or Guvcview → fails with “no
such device” or “no valid frame formats”.
Expected result: Camera should stream video normally (as it does in
Windows).
Actual result: Device nodes are created but unusable. Applications fail
to stream video. Kernel logs show repeated uvcvideo control errors.
